After an excellent buffet breakfast at our hotel, we followed the Camino signs out of town, finding more interesting murals on the way.
We made a short detour to Decathlon to replace a lost hiking pole rubber. As usual, Decathlon was on the edge of town - luckily the way we were going. It looked like they expected most people to drive there, but we found the pilgrim entrance through a gap in the fence.
Rejoining the Camino, we passed fields and a wrecking yard guarded by some bored dogs. It wasn't too long before we came to the first town, Roales del Pan. There were some pilgrim statues and inscriptions in a small park, as well as some slightly creepy statues in a fenced off area beside it. Further on, there was another park for children and 'pilgrim rest'. We had our hopes up for another coffee, so we continued on and found a welcoming bar.
After that it was a pleasant walk through fields, some green, some ploughed, and some containing solar panels. There was an overpass to cross the railway line, with a special shortcut for pilgrims. We experimented with our bug and butterfly photography.
Our host greeted us at Montamarta with a welcoming cool drink. After a rest, we headed out to the supermarket and to dinner. The restaurant we'd checked on Google as open was in fact shut, but we found a bar where the old men were playing board games and there was a relaxed atmosphere. They could serve us food at 8 pm, so we enjoyed a drink on the terrace while we waited, tapping along to the Beatles being piped through the speakers.

Good to read that the trip is going well. Sorry it's taken me so long to respond. I've read all 49 of your posts in the last 2 days in order to catch up. I think it's better than reading a Bill Bryson travel log. I like the idea that you have two breakfast s, just like the "hobbits" in LOR. Keep up the great photos and dialogue and I hope your legs and feet hold up for a few more weeks. All the best. Gerald
ReplyDeleteThanks Gerald, high praise indeed! Yes, we do enjoy our second breakfasts and today some pilgrims suggested second lunch...Tempting, but after a three course menú del dia we're usually done! Bodies are holding up well so far, plenty of rest and food are helping.
DeleteLoving the murals, castles, scenery, flowers, bird and now butterflies and bugs. Very impressive. Also enjoying all the statues, pubs, bench stops, food ... you get the picture...... 😊
ReplyDeleteYour enthusiasm is appreciated!
