DAY 42 - SAN PEDRO DE ROZADOS to SALAMANCA - Monday 3 June 2024

We left our hotel well-rested and fed. Our host had made us a delicious dinner, including a local speciality of spicy mashed potato. She also got up early to make us breakfast, despite staying up late for a party of fishermen the night before.

As we ambled along the path, a local kindly stopped us and redirected us back to the Camino - we hadn't noticed the last yellow arrow as it was a bit overgrown. Luckily it wasn't too far back.

There were lots of the usual photographic opportunities: wildflowers, cows, birds.

After a short while we came to Morille, where we had another coffee and snack. It took us a long time to leave this village because there were many interesting artworks and signs.

Eventually we headed out, following a dirt track. We said goodbye to the dehesa and noticed the start of the meseta, the flat plains. Just as we were looking for a shady rock to have a rest, we came across a signpost to the little village of Miranda de Azan, advertising services. We followed the road in hopefully and to our delight found a restaurant. We were the only customers but they were happy to serve us a wonderful menu del dรญa, including the local special mashed potatoes again.

Fortified, we headed uphill to the Cruz del Peregrino. As we descended we saw a large flock of sheep being driven along the shared path of the stock route, the Via Pecuaria. Their drover controlled their movements with a series of whistles. He took them through the underpass and out the other side.

While we were watching their departure, we saw an Osborne bull sign in the distance. We haven't seen one of these since just north of Jerez.

Following the Via, we entered Salamanca through parkland to our treat accommodation for three nights. We had a great walk today but are very much looking forward to our rest days here.

  1. Who didn't live a good mashed potato...Russell ๐Ÿค”. It sounds like great food when you are seep herders. I love the bull sign, he is huge. You have had some interesting farm animal experiences and live to tell the tales.. thankfully. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

You remembered correctly Deb, Russell will not normally eat mashed potatoes! The trick I believe is to throw some paprika and onion in, leave some lumps, and call them a Spanish regional speciality! Yes, thankfully survived all our farm animal experiences so far.
