DAY 16 - ALCALÁ DE GUADAÍRA to SEVILLE - Wednesday 8 May 2024

On out last day on the Via Augusta, the path took us via the old town of Alcála de Guadaira and we saw the castle, old bridge and some beautiful churches and plazas. We were surprised by the dragon bridge linking the town to the motorway, inspired by Gaudi and completed using mosaics.

Next we had a shady path following the river. We saw some more water mills and lots of cyclists. The shade ran out but we followed the river until it joined a canal. The canal was at first 'suspended' but after it had crossed the river, it opened out again and we saw more birds.

At the outskirts of Seville the path wound through a green corridor, a strip planted with trees, and it was great to have the shade again. We stopped in the first bar for a sandwich and to get a stamp for our credential. A cyclist earlier and a customer in the bar stopped for a chat - there seems to be more awareness of the Camino de Santiago here.

We continued following the yellow arrows and our GPS to the cathedral and then to our accommodation. We're looking forward to exploring Seville in our rest days!

My thoughts on today's birds: not really sure, Common Swift, Golden Eagle, probably also Golden Eagle, maybe Night Heron, might be Short-toed Eagle but I'm not very confident about this. We're hoping to see Golden Eagles in Estonia or northern Finland ..we leave on Sunday!
