DAY 41 - GUIJUELO to SAN PEDRO DE ROZADOS - Sunday 2 June 2024

Another early start today, this one a chilly one from Guijuelo to Fuenterroble on the road, just as the sun was coming up. We practised our shadow photography.

We were hoping for a second breakfast at Fuenterroble in a bar or perhaps the albergue but everything was closed. Instead, we found a seat and enjoyed our bananas and adjusted our shoes there.

Leaving Fuenterroble, we followed a wide dirt track through the dehesa. There was the occasional miliario and many storks out hunting. We had another rest on a bench with great views back to the Gredos mountains with their smattering of snow.

Continuing on, we passed cows and a small group of cyclists passed us. The road split and we took a rocky track up towards some wind turbines. At the last wind turbine, there was a cross and a Santiago statue. We had our sardines and tomatoes on a rock overlooking the plains.

After lunch, we descended using a flowery track to the quiet road below. Although the path was overgrown at times, we used it in preference to the road - softer on the feet, more fun. We did divest ourselves of three ticks later, so this route had a price. The track climbed quite a bit, and we had some sweeping views of the valley.

At the top of one rise, we spied the little village of San Pedro de Rozados. Our walk was soon over for the day.

The start of a long day's walk. We were on the road, but our shadows weren't.

There have been many gates to negotiate so far on our walk. This was the only one today.
The path took us up among the wind turbines that had been in view all day.
